Five Steps to Hosting Guests
Being a good hostess takes work and prior planning. We have
guests for different reasons, although the main reason is to visit, reconnect
and have fun! Hosting guests can be overwhelming, especially if you already
have a full schedule to adhere to, but we must always make room and time for
our loved ones who live far away and are also making an effort with their time
and money to come see you. It can be a treat for everyone involved if prior
planning has taken place and you know
what to expect and are prepared for the unexpected!
Here are five steps to hosting guests:
1)
Have an
Itinerary: Writing down what you plan to do each day and eat are very
important as it will help you stay organized and focused without feeling
overwhelmed about what to do and what to eat all the time.
2)
Shop for essentials
ahead of time: Once you have an itinerary, think about everything you need.
From ingredients for meals to reservations for sightseeing if required.
3)
Invite
and Introduce: Most times, your guests will be from out of town or country
and therefore not know many people. Have a plan to host a simple gathering to
introduce them to “your people” that you enjoy spending time with. Guests love
to experience your life and the wonderful people in it.
4)
Have a
day of rest: Sometimes guests travel long distances and with different time
zones, they need to readjust and get their rest in. Its difficult to enjoy
gatherings or sightseeing if one is exhausted.
5)
Allow the
guest to choose: Be open to changing
your itinerary. Depending on age and abilities and affinities, your guest might
want a day or two (depending on how long they are staying) to do as they
please. You can give them options, but be able to let them go and explore on
their own if you get the feeling that’s what they rather do. Be ready with a
meal and a warm bed for them!
Guests come into our lives for different reasons. Some are to
simple see us and spend every possible moment with us, while others may simply
be passing through and need a place to rest. Our homes are our sanctuaries and
are open to those we love and feel comfortable and safe with. Prior planning
helps everyone enjoy the moment that may come once in a great while. If you
feel stressed or overwhelmed at time, remember they will be gone soon and to
enjoy the moment with them!
