Five Steps to Creating Change within You

Change is constant. The earth changes positions, the weather changes, our bodies and mind change and so do our circumstances and life at times. Change is ever evolving and always happening around us if we pay attention. If changes happen on their own, why then must than change be created? The aforementioned changes happen due to nature, however, if we seek a change within our control, we must gain more control of ourselves through our body and mind. People seek change for different reasons and will only embrace it and follow it, if they  believe in the change they want to create.

Here are Five Steps to creating change within you:

1)      Build a Relationship with Yourself: Many people display self-talk throughout their daily lives, whether we actually say things in our head or out loud, the target audience is the self. The way you speak to yourself has a profound impact on how you see yourself. Be positive and employ positive self-talk throughout your daily life. Think of yourself as your best friend.

2)      Practice Personal Reflection: What do you love about you? What do you love about your life? What is your biggest challenge facing you? What do you wish you could change and have more control of? Why do you want more control of it? This a great stage to stop and think and evaluate your life and the choices you have made and the daily choices you continue to make.

3)      Create The Change: Once you have decided what it is you want to change for the better- whether it is sustaining a healthy lifestyle, professional career decision, losing weight, eliminating an addiction, being more positive, advancing academically and professionally, having better relationships, being a better parent, spouse, son, daughter, or wanting to be more spiritual, charitable, whatever it is you want to create and follow through with daily actions.

4)      Be Mindful of your Change: There will be daily events, people and experiences that will consistently test your emotional and mental state and your desirable change. For an example, if you want to lose weight and have made the decision to do it, it will be an hourly and daily struggle especially if there is food around you unless you keep reminding yourself through self talk about the change you are implementing and the positive rewards you will reap from following through.

5)      Have a Plan: Once you understand what the biggest hurdle is keeping you from creating your desirable change- for instance, if one would like to sustain a healthy lifestyle and they’ve decided to make changes to make that happen and soon realize, you may not be around similar minded folks or don’t have as much time to devote to physical activity, whatever the hurdle is, make a plan on how you will overcome it. Be prepared on how you will react in advance and have a plan on how and why you want this change and when you hope to complete it. You may go off course, but you need to get right back on to fulfill the change.

We all seek contentment in one way or another. Life is too short not to be able to live to our fullest extent of being the best we can be and doing what is needed and what is right for ourselves, each other and the world.
